Former U.S. Senator Harry Reid Endorses Assemblyman Nelson Araujo in The Race to Become Nevada's Next Secretary of State
"Nelson understands that government works when it represents everyone's interest and not just a select few"
Las Vegas, NV — Assemblyman Nelson Araujo (District 3) announced today that he is running for Secretary of State in Nevada in the 2018 election. Elected twice to the Nevada State Assembly, Araujo has risen quickly in the ranks, serving as Assistant Majority Floor Leader in the most recent legislative session. After the announcement former U.S. Senator Harry Reid endorsed Araujo, adding his name to the list of community leaders supporting his candidacy.
Former U.S. Senator Harry Reid said: "When Wall Street greed crashed Nevada's economy and thousands were losing their homes, my Senate office was inundated with requests for help. We set up foreclosure prevention assistance with workshops and programs to fight for Nevadans who had been wronged. And I asked Nelson Araujo to lead these efforts and he fought day and night to keep Nevadans in their homes. The first in his family to graduate from high school - and then college - Nelson understands that government works when it represents everyone's interest and not just a select few. I'm endorsing Nelson for Secretary of State because open and fair elections are a critical pillar of our democracy - and I know Nelson will fight everyday to protect the right to vote."
